A set of four hand-coloured engravings by F W Smith and S Holden for Sir Joseph Paxton's Magazine of Botany and Register of Flowering Plants which was published in 16 volumes by Wiliam S Orr & Co from 1834-1849. Sir Joseph Paxton (1803-1865) was a gardener, garden designer and architect and head gardener at Chatsworth House under the 6th Duke of Devonshire.
Blunt-petalled Scizanthus; Very clammy-stemmed slipperwort; yellow mariposa lily; Scarlet Justicia. Tjey are presented in double mountes and hand-painted decorative frames with non-reflective glass.
The prices is for the set of four, but they are available in pairs for £500 each.
