An original engraving by Johannes (Jan) Kip  (1653-1722) of Wrest House and Park in the County of Bedford, the seat of the Rt Hon Henry Earl of Kent after the drawing by L. Knyff for 'Britannia Illustrata or Views of Several of the Queens Palaces as also of the Principal Seats of the Nobility and Gentry of Great Britain' David Mortier and Daniel Midwinter, London, c.1709. These prints are early English examples of the Bird's-eye form or 3 dimensional perspectives drawn from above.  The result is a cross between a landscape view and a map.

Wrest Park in Silsoe, Bedfordshire is an exceptional rarity – a magnificent house of the 1830s, set in an outstanding restored garden landscape originating in the 17th century.

Johannes Kip (1653-1722) was a Dutch draftsman, engraver and print dealer who settled in England at the end of the 17th century. He was associated with the court of William of Orange and moved to London shortly after William landed in England with his forces in 1688 to claim the English crown.

It is handcoloured and mounted and presented in a ridged frame handpainted in Little Greene's Obsidian Green.

Framed: 40 x 72.5 cm
