A collection of eight French and English majolica plates, including:
A late 19th century French Majolica barbotine plate produced in Salins around 1890, featuring a relief motif of birds among flowers on a turquoise background. Stamped Salins on the base. 20 cm
A majolica leaf dessert plate circa 1880, unmarked (with x4 hairline cracks visible to the base) - 20.5 cm
A late nineteenth century German majolica plate decorated with a heron and its chick set amongst reeds. The heron was a popular motif inspired by the nineteenth century craze for Japonisme and all the great majolica makers made many different items celebrating the heron. Impressed with 120 and stamped 'Geschutz' which translates 'copyright' on the base - 17 cm. Two small nibbles to the rim
A late 19th/early 20th century German relief majolica plate with a white edelweiss flowers on a turquoise blue background made by Villeroy & Boch Schramberg (maker's stamp on the base and numbered 16647 - 19.5 cm (x2 nibbles to the rim) Villeroy & Boch managed the Schramberg facility from 1883 until 1912, during which they created vibrant majolica, barbotine, and faience pieces.
