A Set of Four Nineteenth Century Coloured Engravings of Seaweeds Ilustrated by Walter Hood Fitch (1817-1892)

A set of four nineteenth century coloured engravings of seaweeds illustrated by Walter Hood Fitch (1817-1892) for David Landsborough's (1779-1854) A Popular History of British Seaweeds which was first published by John Edward Taylor in 1849.

Fitch specialised in botanical illustration and was well known for his skill in lithography and was well-known for his contributions to Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Through his associaton with William Hooker, who became Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in 1841, Fitch became the official illustrator of the vast majority of books published by the Gardens over the next 40 years.   

They are presented in double mounts and a hand-painted decorative frame and non-reflective glass.  The price is for the set.
