A set of six large 19th century hand-coloured botanical engravings after Pierre Joseph Redoute (1759-1840) from Le Jardin de la Malmaison de Ventenat 1803, a portfolio of 120 botanical plates sponsored by the Empress Josephine and depicting specimens from her gardens. They are double mounted with a pale green lower mount and presented in a silver flat bobble frame with a hint of red and non-reflective glass. Framed: 63 x 47 cm.
Pierre Joseph Redoute is recognised as one of the most talented botanical artists and was patronised by the Kings of France from Louis XVI to Louis Philippe:
